Villa Nuspirit began as a definitive life calling—one that founder Tanya Woodson Monestel felt inspired to manifest on Costa Rica’s untamed Caribbean coast. In 2013, Tanya relocated from Maryland to Puerto Viejo, diving deep into the region’s unique natural rhythms to design immersive, restorative guest spaces. Guided by a profound understanding of holistic wellness and personal renewal, she conceptualized Villa Nuspirit to meet discerning travelers exactly where they are on their individual journeys. Together with her husband, Costa Rican native Bernal Monestel, Tanya has infused every element of the property with deliberate intentionality. The result is a striking architectural sanctuary where guests can seamlessly choose their own pace—whether accessing bespoke wellness modalities or simply retreating into uncompromised epicurean relaxation. The name Nuspirit honors “Nu,” the ancient Egyptian symbol for the primordial waters of creation, representing infinite potential, rebirth and absolute renewal, and the beautiful art of a life perfectly aligned.
